Embodying Spectrum’s Principles

Passion doesn’t feel like something I choose. It’s not a learned behavior or a practiced trait. I feel passionately about making sure people are provided with the tools to improve their financial outcomes. One of my roles at Spectrum is to help people change their minds about the relevance of financial wellness. They have to be convinced that saving and investing today can change their tomorrows. Passion is my tool. I believe, to my core, in the value of a sound budget and a plan for the future, and I like to enthusiastically share it.
When I can convince them that a balanced budget and a healthy retirement plan should be part of their must have list, I have provided them with a tool that will change the trajectory or their lives.

With every encounter, I want to spread my enthusiasm. I try to encourage participants to want to learn and grow with me.
During one recent one-on-one meeting, the participant was angry and frustrated that his employer had automatically enrolled him in the company’s 401(k) plan. It was a plan he did not think he wanted. This participant hadn’t paid attention to his pay stub for a very long time, and he’d accumulated a couple years’ worth of participation. I was able to calm him down and have a real conversation about his retirement and the importance of his 401(k). We both shared some personal experiences and rapport was created. He was shocked to see that he had already accumulated more than he’d ever saved in his life. We created a plan, and he left me that day with a smile and a very warm handshake.
